Von der Tonsillopharyngitis acuta sind hauptsächlich Kinder und Jugendliche betroffen. Ursache ist meist eine virale oder durch ß-hämolysierende Streptokokken ausgelöste Infektion der Tonsilla palatina. Häufig kommt es noch zu einer begleitenden Pharyngitis.
